Start the day out strong with a light breakfast consisting of tropical fruits, juices, egg frittatas, pan dulce and coffee. Check-in for the event, collect your branded materials for the day and start connecting with other attendees who are to explore what excelencia means.

Opening Keynote Address, Surgeon General Diana Ramos, M.D., M.B.A.

The Paul Merage School of Business is proud to have our alum, Diana Ramos, serve as the California Surgeon General. In her opening remarks, Dr. Ramos will highlight how her business training has complemented her clinical skills, helping her to lead effectively and positively impact the health and well-being of all constituents in our great state.

Panel Session 1 – Leadership Reflections: Lessoned Learned & Words of Wisdom

As the representation of Latinos in the upper echelon of firms becomes more prevalent, it is valuable to learn about the competencies and strategies that help support career progression. In this way, we help improve our understanding of the relationship between vital leadership competencies and the advancement of Latinx talent in the workplace.

10:45 am – 11:30 am

Networking Small Group Sessions – Leadership that Thrives

Fostering connections is a primary goal of the Paul Merage School of Business Latinx Initiative. Students, alums, and corporate partners will convene into small groups by industry and interact around guiding questions such as:

  • What are the essential attributes of successful leaders today?
  • What is one crucial career risk or move you took and why?
  • What are the traits you look for when hiring a new employee?

11:30 am – 12:45 pm

Lunch

We will be hosting an authentic menu with delicious options for attendees to enjoy while conversing with new and old friends over lunch.

    11:45 am – 1:15 pm

    Comemos y Celebramos!

    We will acknowledge students, alums, and corporate partners who exemplify, model, and support the Paul Merage School of Business Latinx Initiative Values and Mission during lunch. Small table discussions around coffee, flan, and churros will be encouraged.

    1:20 pm – 2:20 pm

    Panel Session 2 – Leadership for Today: Current Challenges & Opportunities

    Trends in the workplace create new leadership challenges. This panel will discuss current challenges and opportunities for leaders today. Leading executives will discuss pressing issues of the day, including, but not limited to, shifting demographics, work flexibility, technology developments, and diversity in the workplace.

    2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

    Panel Session 3 – Leadership for Tomorrow: Preparing Future Proof Leaders

    Outstanding leaders notice shifting customer preferences, changing competitive landscapes, and up-and-coming trends. This panel will discuss some of the emergent changes they believe tomorrow’s leaders will need to anticipate. This panel will highlight how universities, corporations, government organizations, and non-profits can begin to future-proof their talent to be ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

    What education, training, and experiences will help future-proof leaders who want to be effective long-term?

    Closing Keynote Address, Pamina Barkow, M.B.A.

    Pamina Barkow, Merage Alum, and CEO of Orange County Pain Management will provide closing remarks about the role that the Paul Merage School of Business has played in her prestigious career Having been recognized by Orange County Business Journal 2021 Women in Business and having led and served on the Dean’s Leadership Circle, we are excited to share Pamina’s insights on Leadership that Thrives!
