Our Start
“MAES was founded in Los Angeles in 1974 to increase the number of Mexican Americans and other Hispanics in the technical and scientific fields. The idea to establish a professional society for Mexican American engineers,” (MAES National). The organization has since grown beyond these beginnings by becoming a national organization which has generalized to support all Latinos in STEM.
Our Chapter at UCI
Our MAES chapter here at UCI upholds the same ideals as the national organization and always tries its best to support our MAES familia. This idea of familia is what sets MAES apart from other organizations— we act as the home away from home by providing a sense of community that is difficult to find as a Latino in STEM.
