Mentoring

A foundational piece of COMP is Peer Mentoring. The goal of this program is to make the transition to grad school easier for incoming grad students, with a special emphasis on mentoring students from underrepresented populations and retaining them in the program. During the summer, each incoming graduate student is paired with another graduate student peer mentor based on the results of a survey.

The mentor is responsible for being an available and reliable guide for the incoming student through the demands relating to program requirements, navigating campus resources, and the general added pressure of life as a new grad student. Mentors should check in with each mentee regularly throughout a quarter and be amenable to changing needs.

Mentors and mentees will both be required to complete semi-regular check-in surveys each quarter.

The most recent survey for the Mid-Winter 2021 period can beĀ found here.
