Open Positions
Postdoctoral Fellow
Job Location: Hicks Laboraory in the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Center at
University of California, Irvine in Irvine, CA.
Research Areas: The Hicks lab is focused on applying emerging technologies to direct stem cell fate decisions, improve skeletal muscle regeneration, and develop therapies for neuromuscular diseases. We are interested in supporting human and mouse skeletal muscle stem cells through intrinsic signaling, micro-environment cues, and novel drug discovery. This includes building stem cell niches to support stem cells in both human and transgenic mouse models. The Hicks lab also uses a patented approach to generate skeletal muscle from human pluripotent stem cells for disease modeling, developmental studies, and cell therapies. We are continually looking for ways to improve and translate iPSC muscle therapies.
Minimum degree and field of knowledge: PhD or MD in stem cell biology, molecular biology, computational biology, or related field. Strong publication record is essential. Experience working with skeletal muscle stem cells or pluripotent stem cells is preferred, as well as demonstrated expertise in the use of cellular imaging/microscopy flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, or molecular biology (RT-PCR, gene editing). Expertise in mouse models, cell therapy, or computational biology (R programming) would be very valuable. This opening is an ideal opportunity for recent MD or PhD graduates interested in a career in medicine and/or biomedical research. Interested candidates should submit a CV, a brief statement of current and future career goals and contact information for three references by email to mrhicks1@uci.edu.
Postdoctoral Fellow
Job Location: Kimonis Laboratory in Hewitt Hall at
University of California, Irvine in Irvine, CA.
Research Areas: Our research is focused on studying the molecular basis and translational studies in hereditary myopathies and related disorders. We are using classical methods of gene and protein analysis, gene expression array technology, stem cell biology functional and biochemical studies, CRISPR, antisense oligonucleotide technology, and gene therapy in in-vitro and animal studies. Contact Virginia Kimonis, M.D. to discuss the position further at vkimonis@uci.edu.
