In case you missed Chancellor Gillman’s message to campus employees this week, I wanted to bring to your attention a new UCI faculty colleague he referred to as “example of an up-and-coming force on the UCI faculty.”
She is Aomawa Shields, Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Physics & Astronomy. She is a brilliant astrobiologist with a background in theater arts. As an African-American woman, she is committed to mentoring and inspiring young women to develop interest in STEM fields by incorporating creative arts into astronomy education. Read about her in UCI News and watch her TED talk. You will be inspired too!
