The Irvine Korean Cultural Festival celebrates and shares Korean cultural heritage and artistic traditions with the community. This community event is a culture-filled extravaganza replete with fine Korean cuisine, games, art, music, and entertainment.

International Women’s Day

March is National Woman History Month, but today is International Women’s day.

The theme for this years is #BeBoldforChange. But, little actions can also make a difference, like shopping women owned businesses in your community. Even in 2017, women all around the world are still fighting for equality in all areas of life. We have today but really everyday should be the day we fight for equality and inclusion for everyone.

Bystander Intervention Training

The Diversity Team and Library Human Resources is hosting the Bystander Intervention Training that is taking place on February 22 at 9am to 11am in Langson Library 570.

During this training, Dr. Negar Shekarabi* and Dr. Kanwar Pahwa** will present ways to be proactive in helping people in distress, and how to be an ally to victims of microaggressions.

All library employees are welcome and encourage to attend.

*Dr. Negar Shekarabi is the Interim Coordinator for the UCI Faculty & Staff Mental Health Care & Respondent Services.

Librarian Recruitment Process at UCI

Library Human Resources will be giving insight on the recruitment process for librarian positions today (11/1/16) at 1pm to 2pm in ASL 104.

The topics vary from developing the job description to receiving comment from the library employees that attend the presentations.

One topic that will be covered/discussed in the meeting is Diversity. Everybody that applies for a UCI librarian position is required to write a diversity statement. This procedure is becoming very common in the world of librarianship. Diversity and inclusion are issues that many societies around the world are putting their collective spotlights on.

Therefore, we encourage you to attend the open meeting today.

Irvine Global Village Festival

If you are looking for something to do this weekend you might want to check out the Irvine Global Village Festival. This is a free event that is celebrating its 15^th anniversary. There will be Live Music, Food booths, an International Marketplace, and activities for the kids.

This event is to promote understanding in Irvine’s multicultural community.
