Feeling exhausted from a constant stream of email notifications, social media posts, and news alerts? You aren’t alone. WNYC’s Note to Self created the “infomagical challenge” to address information overload, noting “studies are starting to show [that] new channels of information are messing with our ability to process what we consume.”
I haven’t formally taken the challenge, but I listened to the podcasts and tried — and enjoyed — several of the tasks, including a day spent single-tasking and the suggestion to apply the “KonMari” method to the apps on my phone. (For the uninitiated, that means I discarded the apps on my phone that do not bring me joy — see below for the results.) The podcasts also feature advice from UCI professor Gloria Mark! Check out the challenges (or just listen to the advice) here. –KAK
