I had the opportunity to complete UCI’s Basic Mediation Training last year, and found it to be super beneficial professionally and personally. Tomorrow is the last day to apply! The UCI Mediation Program is managed by the Office of the Ombudsman. It has served the campus and medical center since 1996. Mediation is an informal process which gives parties the opportunity and power to decide the outcome of their dispute confidentially. The Mediation Program is a service that offers parties an alternative to existing formal grievance or complaint processes.

Each year, the UCI Mediation Program offers a one-week training designed to teach participants practical conflict resolution skills which can be used in the workplace. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion per the Dispute Resolution Program Act of 1986. With this certificate, graduates of the program will be able to volunteer for the courts and other community-based programs which provide mediation services.

The basic mediation training is a highly interactive process requiring a significant time commitment. This year’s training will be held:

Dates: September 10 – 14, 2018
Times: 9:00AM-5:00PM
Location: Humanities Instructional Building Room 135 (on the UCI Campus)

Selected applicants will be required to attend each full day of the week-long training. A training manual and supplemental material will be provided. A catered lunch and refreshments will be served each day. If appropriate, please discuss the time commitment with your supervisor for approval to clear your calendar prior to applying.

The deadline for submitting the application is Friday, April 13, 2018 by 5:00PM.

Based on the number of applications received and class size restrictions, not all applicants may be called for an interview. Please note that those persons who have participated in and completed previous Basic Mediation Trainings are not eligible for the program.
