2020-2021 Volunteer Events

In these unprecedented times, it is of the utmost importance to give back to our community and show gratitude for the hardworking healthcare workers risking their lives on the frontline. In the spirit of this, Pre-Pharmacy Society’s Board Interns will be hosting a virtual volunteering event, where we will be writing letters and decorating cards for healthcare workers. Participants will have a choice to either email hospitals with pictures of their cards, or directly deliver them to any desired healthcare location. Come out to volunteer while bonding with PPS friends!

Our second volunteering opportunity for this quarter is DreamLab, a free mobile app that enables smartphone users to harness the collective processing power of their mobile phones to help speed up disease research. Similar to other volunteering opportunities like BeMyEyes and 7Cups, this opportunity can be completed via a mobile application! DreamLab is an app that allows you to help researchers by letting them use your phone energy for calculations! All you have to do is plug in your phone and leave it plugged in overnight with the app open. It runs calculations while you’re asleep and you can see how many calculations were done once you wake up! DreamLab primarily focuses on cancer research projects, but they temporarily have a COVID research project you can contribute too, as well!

If you are a paid member and would like to receive a stamp for participating, please fill out this Google Form and attach a screenshot of your contribution after your first session! An example is provided further down this form! After the deadline of this Google Form has passed, you can expect the appropriate changes made on the “Stamp Card” Google Sheet shared with all paid members!

The deadline to complete this form is Wednesday, May 12th, 2021 at 11:59 PM. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our President, Jenny Nguyen (jennn15@uci.edu).

Our first volunteering opportunity for this quarter is writing letters to those in isolation. This opportunity is unique, as we have two options for you to participate in! The first one is Letters to Elders and the second one is Cards for Hospitalized Kids. Please feel free to participate in either or both! However, they do require different steps, so I will summarize them below.

Option 1: Letters to Elders
Website: https://www.eastsideelders.org/letters-to-elders/

This option is rather straightforward. You will have to go to the website above and scroll down to type your message! Your letter is sent once you click the submit button.

Option 2: Cards for Hospitalized Kids
Website: http://www.cardsforhospitalizedkids.com/make-general-cards.html
For this opportunity, please view the website above to see all the details and instructions! This option may require you to purchase some materials if you don’t have them already, like an envelope and stamp. Forever stamps can be used to mail your cards! They should be around $0.55 a piece. Although this option may require more work and effort, it’s much more personalized!

Please fill out this Google Form and attach a screenshot that you’ve submitted your letter (the thank you screen will suffice) or a photo of your stamped card, ready to be mailed out! After the deadline of this Google Form has passed, you can expect the appropriate changes made on the “Stamp Card” Google Sheet shared with all paid members! Please note that you can receive one stamp per option, so you could get a total of two stamps maximum by participating in both!

The deadline to complete this form is Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 at 11:59 PM. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our President, Jenny Nguyen (jennn15@uci.edu).
