PGY-2 Infectious Diseases
Program Overview & Goals
The PGY-2 Infectious Diseases (ID) Pharmacy Residency Program at UCI Health is designed to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in ID, clinical laboratory medicine and antimicrobial stewardship. The resident will work closely with the Adult ID Consult Service, Immunocompromised ID Consult Service, and other clinical services to care for patients with or at risk for infections in order to gain proficiency in delivering effective pharmacotherapy to these patient populations at risk. The resident will also learn the principles of antimicrobial stewardship through practices in performing associated clinical activities. The resident has numerous opportunities to teach and precept pharmacy students of UCI School of Pharmacy with the option to complete the teaching certification program.
- Orientation (1-2 weeks)
- Infectious Diseases 1 – Introduction (4-6 weeks)
- Infectious Diseases 2A – General ID Consult (6-8 weeks)
- Infectious Diseases 2B – Immunocompromised ID Consult (6-8 weeks)
- Infectious Diseases 3 – Final/Independent (6-8 weeks)
- Antimicrobial Stewardship (2-4 weeks)
- Clinical Microbiology (2 weeks)
- Critical Care-Medical (4-6 weeks)
- Oncology (4-6 weeks)
- Critical Care-Surgical (4-6 weeks)
- Emergency Medicine (4-6 weeks)
REQUIRED
- ID Research Project (yearlong)
- ID Clinic (1 half-day per week for 12 weeks)
- ID and Antimicrobial Stewardship Practices (yearlong): Antimicrobial Formulary Review, Antibiogram, Monographs, Guideline Revision, etc.
- Staffing: Two 8-hour shifts every 3rd weekend, one set of major holidays, and a 4-hour PM shift every other week in Inpatient Pharmacy Areas

Application Information
- Applicants must have graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and in process of completing or have completed an ASHP-accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency.
- Applicants must be registered for the ASHP National Matching Services.
- Eligible for California Pharmacist Licensing Exam immediately after PGY2 program commitment. A valid license must be obtained by November 1st of residency year.

Stipend, Benefits, and Travel Information
- Number of positions available: 1
- Salary: $81,432 annually
- Allowed 2 weeks of paid vacation
- Travel expenses and time off to attend approved pharmacy conference (stipend amount varies and to be determined per meeting budget)
