PGY-2 Oncology 

Program Overview & Goals

The UC Irvine Health PGY2 Oncology Residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skill, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advance practice area, if available.  

The UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCI CFCCC) was established in 1989 as a university-based cancer center, National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated in 1994, and comprehensive cancer center status in 1997. UCI CFCCC is the only NCI-designated and comprehensive cancer center based in Orange County with a mission to develop new knowledge about the etiology, causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers. UCI CFCCC continues to expand treatment options with one of the largest early phase clinical trials programs in Southern California and proudly offers growing treatment options in our FACT accredited stem cell transplant and cellular therapy program. Our multidisciplinary team consists of world-class oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, social workers and dietitians works together seamlessly to treat cancers of all types and degrees of severity.

Resident may select up to 2 electives, repeat a core rotation, or work with the RPD to develop a new elective learning experience.

Application Information

Requirements to Apply:  

  • Applicants must have graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and in process of completing or have completed an ASHP-accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency. 
  • Applicant must be registered for the ASHP Resident Matching Program (the “Match”) 
  • Eligible for California Pharmacist Licensing Exam immediately after PGY2 program commitment. A valid license must be obtained by November 1st of residency year.

Interview and Selection Process Information: 

  • All eligible applicants’ packets submitted in PhORCAS will be screened. The offer to interview will include relevant policies, salaries, benefits, and requirements for successful completion of the program.   

Benefits:  

  • $81,432 stipend as of 2024-2025 year 
  • Allowed 2 weeks paid vacation 
  • Travel expenses and time off to attend approved pharmacy conference (Stipend amount varies and to be determined per meeting budget)
