In 1964, an archaeological excavation of a Byzantine cemetery in Istanbul recovered a sarcophagus. Three lines of Middle Persian inscription was carved on the lid of the sarcophagus. de Menasce dates it to no later than Bahram V.

2. ce tombeau est pour ……. que le Seigneur l’ait en miséricorde, du pays d’Erānšahr, du district de Carkān, du Village d’Ašt,
3. où, durant un an (ou: trois ans) il fit avec espérance oeuvre pacifique, jusqu’à ce qu’il se trouvât à Rome…….. juste et vieillard (ou: ancien).
