  1. Investigated the Glassblowing process for the development of high symmetry fused quartz shell-based gyroscopes – simulation, quality factor-based optimization
  2. Analyze causes of imperfections using computer simulation models and develop a model for predicting the imperfections during the glass-blowing process and reduce frequency splits from 10Hz to about 1-2 Hz.

  1. Developed the batch fabrication process for a nonprismatic, heterogeneous microbeam structure, comprised of a silicon microcantilever with a polymer coupling that enables the integration of two dissimilar materials (e.g., silicon and polyimide) in a free-standing fashion.
  2. Created the feasibility in controlling the structural dimension and material properties such that the beam could be intentionally designed to exhibit a drastic change in the stiffness between two materials, which has been confirmed to be the basis of strong geometric nonlinearity.
  3. Published the results as a co-author in three conferences and a journal paper, the work has been acknowledged by multiple papers based on this seminal work.
