I’d like to share the wonderful compliment below Nancy Carter received from Gwendolyn Kuhns Black, Director, Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action. Nancy is an outstanding staff member and I’m thrilled to see her efforts recognized by other units.
Nancy,
Just wanted to thank you for doing a good job on the disposition reasons for applicants to JPFXXXXX. After reviewing others today, yours stood out as a great example – for those who were proposed as well as those not selected. Great way to end my day!
Hope you have a wonderful new year!
Gwen
Amy Pham
I cannot think of someone who works as hard as Amy. The EECS department would not thrive as much if it were not for her. She is dedicated to the students and staff and absolutely deserves a kudos!
Students and staff heavily rely on Amy’s departmental expertise, punctuality, grace, and professionalism. She can respond to hundreds of emails in a short period of time and sometimes sacrifices her own time outside of work to do so. She genuinely cares about the department and her positivity boosts morale. I hope she feels appreciated and that this kudos encourages others to give Amy the recognition she deserves!
Jeannie Lin
So many of our co-workers are incredibly efficient, and a pleasure to work with. So much so, that sometimes it’s easy to not recognize those that go beyond the regular great service they provide. But I have had the pleasure of working recently with one who really went above their necessary functions to help out.
Recently, one of my PIs had a family emergency. It was completely unexpected, and he had to leave immediately to tend to his family’s situation, in another country. We were right in the middle of a new government award being set up. In his absence the RAS and Fabrication accounts were set up, so that the large amount of equipment purchasing required for this time-sensitive project would be able to progress on the timeline it had.
Once the RAS was set up, and the Fabrication account ready, we were ready to begin purchasing. There were many orders that needed to be handled quickly, and the project period had already started, and there was a bit of concern if it was all going to be done in time. Jeannie Lin, in SSoE Purchasing, went way beyond helpful. I explained the situation, and she immediately put in place a plan so there would be no delays or holdups, even though the PI was out of the country. I forwarded emails to her showing that the professor instructed myself and his staff to carry on and get the equipment purchased. Jeannie sent out emails to her team to ensure there weren’t any delays, as well as emails to the PI’s staff, to assist them in the process, and was so incredibly helpful.
Everyone in Purchasing is truly fantastic to work with, but I felt special mention was needed here, as she really went above and beyond to ensure there were no hiccups in the process due to the PI’s family emergency.

Thank you for setting up the kudos board. This will be great for the school.
Dennis Aldridge and Henry Cordova
Dear Dennis and Henry,
I am grateful for everything you have done, and are doing, with respect to our ISEB move. Moving laboratories is stressful because of lost time and in our case, the possibility that our experiments will not work in the new space. Every aspect of this move is aided, and in many cases rescued, by your calm evaluation, professionalism and engagement.
Without exception the two of you have solved issues through creative problem solving, interactions with the contractors, and generosity of your time and resources. To be frank, I don’t know how the building would have turned out without your management and leadership. Thank you.
Gratefully yours,
Elliot Botvinick
