Mission Statement

The Science Technology Education Workgroup (STEW) is designed to provide academic stakeholders the space to collaborate, share ideas, and partner on initiatives to enhance support for minoritized students (MS) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The primary focus of STEW is to strengthen equity, access, and inclusion in STEM.

The vision for STEW is to streamline faculty and administrator engagement, exchange information concerning best practices, explore emergent data to inform efforts in STEM persistence and retention, and create a centralized unit for existing initiatives focused on STEM inclusion efforts.

Partnerships

STEW partners with faculty, administrators, staff, and community partners to leverage resources and opportunities geared towards providing MS in STEM with a web of academic support.

STEW focuses on the following overarching areas:

About Us

The STEW initiative is a campus-wide collaborative effort led by the Samueli School of Engineering and the School of Education. The primary focus of STEW is to create a centralized unit that brings together faculty, administrators, and staff who are focused on addressing equity, access, and diversity in STEM to partner on potential opportunities, share best practices, and offer professional development workshops to the greater community. The goal is greater interdisciplinary collaboration to both increase inclusive excellence and equitable outcomes for STEM students at UCI and produce knowledge that promotes greater diversity in STEM fields.

Research

STEW brings faculty and administrators together to engage in conversations about potential research opportunities.

Pedagogy

Faculty and administrators exchange information, resources, and opportunities that enhance inclusive academic spaces in STEM.

Practice

STEW provides a space for the dissemination of information related to STEM student support programs.
