Dear STOC,
Five items in order of importance.
1) We’re meeting at MainPlace Mall at 10AM on Saturday, May 7. Specifically, meet on the top floor of the east side parking garage. I am at 949-536-6515 if you get lost. I’m bringing bikes for Ian, Rachel, and Michah.
2) Attached: a map of our route. We’ll use my car and Mariah’s truck to shuttle bikes to the start point.
3) One additional reading on Jon Jerde, author of many of SoCal’s spectacular malls. In the spectacle sense of the word. At the very least read Ray Bradbury’s introduction and check out your very own Fashion Island at the end. MainPlace Mall is also a Jerde project.
4) Robert Girardin’s photo supplement as a PDF, in case you couldn’t get it from DropBox. I will bring printed copies of Robert’s manuscript components and we’ll take a break during our ride to learn more about his project.
5) One additional reading that complements and complicates Charles Moore‘s take on public space: Aaron Betsky‘s Nothing But Flowers: Against Public Space. Neither of these readings is specific to tomorrow’s tour but both are rife with California examples. We’ll take another break to break them out and apart, so please spend your morning coffee with them.
