Hello

makinig ka

Tao Po is an oral/aural documentation project particularly interested in the identity formation and construction of the Filipinx-/American identity through the locus of Twitter. Examining the platform of Twitter and contextualizing the discourse of identity, belonging, and presentation in regards to the Filipinx-/American community helps in understanding how this current generation of Filipinx-/Americans see and make themselves.

tao po?

The project title, “tao po”, is a common Tagalog greeting used when entering a space to simultaneously announce one’s presence while loosely asking for “anybody home?.” The phrase is rooted in pre-colonial Filipino supernatural beliefs but has since shifted to mundane practice. Keeping in line with the tradition, my research into the platform of Filipino Twitter similarly asks the same question; “anybody home?”

The podcast interviews are housed in the “audio” sub-menu under the interviews tab, while the writings expanding on the respective topics talked about are within sub-menus found underneath the “writing” section. The section titled “interview” contains my method of interviewing my peers and “writing” expands more on this project.

Salamat for coming!
