Tao Po is an oral documentation project particularly interested in the identity formation and construction of Filipinx-/American identity through the locus of Twitter.

Examining the platform of Twitter and contextualizing the discourse of identity, belonging, and presentation in regards to the Filipinx-/American community helps in understanding how this current generation of Filipinx-/Americans see and make themselves.

The phrase “tao po” is a common Tagalog greeting used when entering a space to announce one’s presence while simultaneously calling for people. Loosely translated to “anybody home?” the phrase is rooted in pre-colonial Filipino supernatural beliefs but has since shifted to mundane practice.
