The Teaching Artist Project (TAP) is a collaboration between the San Diego Unified School District and the University of California, Irvine, that uses arts integration to boost the oral language skills and social-emotional development of children in thirty high-poverty elementary schools with large numbers of children who speak a language other than English at home. During each school’s first year in the program, teaching artists visit each teacher’s classroom weekly for 28 weeks to co-teach theatre and dance lessons.
