Sophia Nakasone: Co-President and Public Relations Chair

Hello! I’m Sophia and I’m a third-year student double majoring in Economics and Criminology, Law & Society. On campus, I am the Co-President and PR Chair of this wonderful organization, a Counselor for Camp Kesem, a Resident Advisor at Middle Earth Housing, and a Student Web Developer and Social Media Manager for The Paul Merage School of Business. After graduation, I look forward to working full-time and eventually pursuing law school. One day, I hope to become a public defender and work in social justice.

In my free time, I love traveling, exploring new coffee shops and restaurants, doing yoga, dancing, singing, and being a mentor for others. I am passionate about community service and meeting others to build meaningful, lasting relationships.

I am honored to represent UCI and serve as the Co-President and PR Chair of Anteater Ambassadors Network. The experience I’ve gained, opportunities I’ve received, the connections I’ve created, and lifelong friends I’ve made throughout my college career in my involvements. I’m excited for another year with AAN and the new memories to come!

Febe Hanna: Co-President

Hello Everyone!!! My name is Febe Hanna. I am a third-year Bio Sci major. I have been a member of AAN since the spring quarter of my freshman year and last year I was the treasurer so I am ecstatic to be your Co-Presidents with Sophia this year!! Some of my hobbies include mentorship, watching movies, hiking, and just being around my friends and family. Being a part of AAN has provided me with really great opportunities to network, volunteer, and build relationships with people from all over UCI with all different responsibilities which has really expanded and enriched my experience at UCI. These past few years have been wonderful and I can’t wait to see what this year holds!!

Monica Hani: Vice President

Hello there! My name is Monica Botross and I am a third year Biological Sciences major and Art History minor. Some of my favorite hobbies include cooking, playing the violin, gardening (I grow the cutest summer tomatoes!!), grocery shopping (the only type of shopping I enjoy), and watching crime documentaries.

I first joined AAN spring quarter of my freshman year because I wanted to be a part of an organization that believes in the importance of giving back and making a difference in the community. And because it puts on the best events on campus (ones that allow me to rock a pair of high heels and a fancy blouse). During my time at AAN, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of some of the most exciting and important events across all campus departments. I have learned so much from this organization about networking, teamwork, professionalism, and the value of giving back to the community. I hope to continue being a part of this incredible group for the remainder of my time at UCI and I cannot wait to see how far the club goes this year!

Shelly Ye: Secretary and Webmaster

Hi everyone! My name is Shelly, and I’m a second-year business administration major! I joined Anteater Ambassadors Network in Fall 2019, and I’m excited to serve you as your 2020-2021 Secretary. I am passionate about community service and I love meeting new people– AAN has been an outlet for me to pursue both of these interests! I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together this year and I look forward to meeting you!

Rachel Azar: Treasurer

Hello there! My name is Rachel Azar and I am a third year Biological Sciences major. I am more than excited to be the treasurer of AAN for 2020-2021! In the last couple of years, I found my passion in medicine by volunteering at the hospital and getting more involved through clinical research. A little more about myself is that I was born and raised in Syria and came to the United States during my freshman year of high school. Coming from a different background and trying to adapt to a new environment has taught me many valuable lessons, one of which is the importance of helping those going through similar struggles. With that said, transitioning to college can be tough and lonely but rest-assured, I will try my best to keep up with all AAN members to ensure a better college experience at UCI.

Jeffrey Cho: Supervisor

Hello! My name is Jeffrey and I’m a fourth year Business Administration student. Since starting at UCI, I knew I wanted to get involved on campus and give back to the community in some aspect. AAN has allowed me to volunteer my time and led me to meet incredible individuals with diverse backgrounds. I’m excited to provide guidance to the AAN board as the organization’s Supervisor this year. I look forward to seeing the organization continue to grow and thrive.

Outside of AAN, I’ve been actively involved in the Merage business community through various organizations such as the professional business leadership fraternity – Lambda Phi Nu, the student government – Merage Undergraduate Student Association, and the LEADS program.

In my free time I enjoy hiking, hanging out with friends, playing board games, and watching anime. I love meeting new people and learning about their various passions, so feel free to say hi if you ever see me on campus.

After graduation, I hope to take some time to travel and then pursue a career in Human Resources with a focus in Recruiting or Learning & Development.

Aisha Raheem: Alumni Chair

Hello Anteaters, my name is Aisha Raheem and I am a junior majoring in Biological Sciences. My time at UCI has been rewarding due to the different clubs and organizations the school offers. I am excited to be the alumni chair for this upcoming year here at AAN. I am a secretary for an honor society called National Society of Leadership and Success. I am part of a club called GHREAT (Global Health Research Education and Translation), which promotes global health awareness in school through journal clubs and fundraisers. Outside of school, I intern at a hospital where I interact and connect with patients, helping them to the best of my ability.  Some of my hobbies are baking, trying different foods, watching different food videos, and grocery shopping (I am a foodie!). I also enjoy reading and spending time with my family.

The reason I joined AAN is to give back to my community in numerous ways through volunteering at events and building lifelong connections with UCI students and be a resource for others. Being an ambassador is all about diversity and connecting with people from different backgrounds. Being an ambassador means to not only be the voice of UCI on campus, but to be the voice in every other community where I have a great opportunity to play the role and responsibility of promoting the values and mission that UCI offers and acts upon.

Maria Gerges: Social Chair

My name is Maria Gerges and I will be the social chair for AAN for 2020-2021. I am currently a third-year bio sci/premed major here at UCI. Aside from AAN, I am also a member of IMED which is a club for premed students catered towards helping underprivileged individuals in the country as well as abroad. I also do research at the UCI Medical Center at the division of colorectal surgery. Usually, I love driving around and exploring new places with my friends and family but since we’re in quarantine I have been trying to develop new hobbies. I usually love looking up cute coffee shops so I can motivate myself to study. I am a big fan of having photoshoots with my friends and my younger sister. During this extra time at home, I started getting more into baking and cooking. I have also grown to love and appreciate UCI so much for all that it offers its students. If you need help with anything whether it be for AAN or if you have any questions regarding the premed route, I will be more than happy to help 🙂
