The UCI Mask team has been busy in lab the past few weeks. Most of our work has been in finalizing and testing the design of the origami mask. We would like to submit an article on its design and performance to a peer-reviewed scientific journal in order to have our checked by experts in the field. To this end, we have built the mask out of different materials and tested the filtration efficiency and resistance to airflow using our mannequin, Tony (yes, Jim has named the mannequin Tony in honor of his hero, Anthony Fauci). You may be wondering what we are learning about our mask, and about face masks in general. Well, just like the story of the three little bears, it’s a story about “too much,” “too little,” and “just right.” For details, see my next post in a few days!
