The UCI Face Mask Team is currently developing designs for masks that address two important needs:
- An inexpensive, easy-to-make disposable mask that can be assembled and used by anyone. We call our design the “UCI Origami Mask.” Any fabric can be used in making this mask. We started using WipAll X80 reusable wipes, but have successfully made this mask from many other fabrics. Folding instructions are below and the filtration performance is presented here.
- A reusable/washable mask for use in clinics. We are currently investigating designs that layer a stretchy neoprene with nonwoven materials to achieve high filtration efficiencies.
