Imaging Laboratory
Radiological Sciences space in Medical Sciences I includes the Radiological Imaging Research Lab which is directed by Dr. Sabee Molloi, Ph.D. This facility contains a biplane angiography unit for conducting large animal research studies. The lab also contains equipment for performing surgery in animals.
Pre-Clinical Lab
Radiological Sciences in Medical Sciences I also includes the Preclinical Imaging Lab which is directed by Dr. Jogesh Mukherjee, Ph.D. This facility is adjacent to the Radiological Imaging Research Lab and contains a whole body positron emission tomography (PET) scanner for conducting human and large animal research studies.
Surgery Suite
A Surgery Suite is located on the same floor 200 feet from the imaging labs. It contains a fully equipped operating room for large animals including pre and post op recovery rooms. The Surgery Suite also contains space where up to 18 large animals can be housed for long term follow-up studies.
Other Laboratories
A fully equipped laboratory supervised by UCI faculty is available for performing examination of blood and other body fluids and products. Necropsy examination of large animals in also available when needed.
UC Irvine School of Medicine
The resources of the UCI School of Medicine are available to support the services provided by the Medical Products Evaluation Program. This includes numerous faculty with research experience in large animals.
