About Us

The Women & Children’s Health & Well-Being Project is a collaborative research program by the University of California Irvine, and the Early Human and Lifespan Development Program at Chapman University. Our program has been in existence for over 20 years. So far, more than 1,500 families have participated in our studies. The main focus of our research is to examine how the prenatal environment influences children’s and mothers’ health and well-being. Thanks to the families participating in our studies, we are able to create new knowledge about how children grow, learn, and develop!

We are extremely grateful to all of the families who have put in the time and effort to participate in our studies over the years.  Without you, our research would not be possible!

How is our research funded?

Our research is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Our current studies are part of (and supported by) a Silvio O. Conte Center grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).  All of the projects within the Center are aimed at understanding how early experiences influence the brain and contribute to health and development in the adolescent period.  If you are interested in learning more about the Center, please visit the UCI Conte Center website.
