Themes

For this project, we wanted to show common themes that encompassed different narratives of the AAPI experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. After collaborating as a team and with our community partners, we curated our photographs to 5 themes:

• Family
• Health & Care
• Community
• Resilience
• Business

These themes represent a shared experience amongst AANHPI communities. Yet, as you explore through the themes, each individual photograph represents a narrative unique to the student researcher and/or photographer.

To capture each unique narrative behind every picture, we used the SHOWeD method:

1. What do you see here?
2. What is really happening here?
3. How does this relate to our lives?
4. Why does this problem or situation exist?
5. How could this image educate others?
6. What can we do about the problem or situation?
