Meet the Officers

President: Matt Laffin

Matt is a 4th-year graduate student in the Earth System Science department at UC Irvine. He graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s in Climate Science. His current research is understanding the effect of surface wind on melt and ice shelf stability in Antarctica. This picture was taken in January 2019 somewhere in the San Jacinto Wilderness in California.

Vice President: Ana Sena

Ana is a 5th year graduate student in the Earth System Sciences department at UC Irvine. She graduated from the University of Sao Paulo with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology. She is currently researching the causes of interannual variability of the South American Monsoon, and how South America’s climate may change in the future. This picture was taken at the 99th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting, in Phoenix. You can learn more about Ana here.

Secretary: Gracie Wong

Gracie is a second-year graduate student in the Earth System Science department at UC Irvine. She graduated from UCI with a BS in Earth System Science. Her current research involves instrument development and airborne measurements of SO2 from power plant plumes. This photo was taken in May 2019 in South Korea during an aircraft measurements field campaign. You can learn more about Gracie here.

Treasurer:  Zach Wolff

Zach is a fifth year graduate student in the Earth System Science department at UC Irvine. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and a minor in Climatology.  His current research is working on improving the modeling of sea ice in global scale models to have a more accurate representation of longwave radiation being emitted and absorbed by sea ice and the surrounding ocean.

General Board: Tien-Yiao Hsu

Tien-Yiao is a fourth year graduate student in the Earth System Sciences department at UC Irvine. He is a climate scientist generally into geophysical fluid, currently working on on the development of hierarchy of ocean modeling to understand ocean process in a climatological aspect.

General Board: Anna Agnew

Anna is a fourth year undergraduate student at UCI. She conducts research under Dr. Alex Guenther to use landcover imagery to map BVOC emissions. This photo was taken at Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve near Lake Berryessa.
