Powertrain
Powertrain members are responsible for selecting the appropriate gear reduction for high acceleration and torque performance with the given 14 HP Kohler CH440 engine. The Powertrain subteam makes the selection of axles that can handle the instantaneous torque exerted on their system and the linkage system used to engage the vehicle in four wheel drive (drive shaft/chain, belt pulleys, differentials).

Powertrain Design
The objective of the Powertrain subteam is the transfer of power output from the engine. The Powertrain subteam must design and manufacture the power transmission system to optimally balance torque and speed ratios to drive all four wheels in the rugged terrain achieving the most with the 14 HP Kohler CH440 engine. Choosing a transmission type and selecting the proper parts and components to handle large forces during operation while carefully considering packaging in the Chassis are the decisions the Powertrain Sub-team must consider.
Powertrain Manufacturing & Testing
Powertrain manufacturing involves machining, waterjetting, welding, and use of power tools such as the angle grinder. The Powertrain subteam must verify dimensions & wheel travel and conduct a series of tests & procedures to confirm the powertrain system will work appropriately before running the car for the first time (CVT, Gearbox, CV Axles, etc).
