Arabic 1B

This course is the second quarter of the Elementary Arabic series. The course will prepare students to deal with the complexities of language acquisition in a comfortable and supportive learning environment by employing an integrated skills approach to language instruction. The course is very interactive and expects students to use the language as much as possible inside of class and out. The course aims to create an Arabic speaking community among students, which relies on student interaction and participation. The course also familiarizes students with various topics related to Arab culture and history and coordinates student activities and field trips with the Arabic Language and Culture Club.

Students will develop competency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Formal Arabic as well as applying grammar, such that by the quarter’s end students should achieve an Novice- High level of proficiency.

 

Prerequisites: Arabic 1A (with a grade of C or better), the equivalent, or placement into Arabic 1B. Students intending to take this course should be familiar with the Arabic writing system and Al-Kitaab fii Ta‘allum al-‘Arabiyya part 1, second edition through Lesson 2. One should watch the main videos from each lesson from the textbook Al-Kitaab fii Ta‘allum al-‘Arabiyya part 1 covered during the previous quarter.

 

This course will help students fulfill the School of Humanities and International Studies major language requirement.
