Proposal

Not the greatest idea but something I really like about the school is the top down views of the earliest student housing and trees. These places offer cool shapes and the dorms look like puzzle pieces or legos of some kind. I think in terms of interesting shapes you could create small, interlocking shapes based on the top down views of these houses.

You could stack or arrange them in any number of ways and it ties directly into Mesa. They could be arranged to fit a number of locations and we could do anything in terms of color and size.

I don’t know what we can do with the tree maps but I love them.

Lotus Report

I talked with Lotus and she gave us some extra lid collection options. We can booth on ring road, potentially, as well as participate in the Valentines Day sustainability fair, and she could help us more if we had more time.

Right now we’re focusing on Valentines Day. She needs flyers and a picture of our box ASAP. Please make sure these get sent, I’ll ping someone today to double check.

Blue and Red Assignments

Timmy: Coordinate with Lou for moving the printer. Get back to us with anything that we need for Tuesday.

Everyone: Move the printers either before, or during class Tuesday to the Mesa location.

Jackie: Create digital flyer for the screen that’s going to be near the printer set up.

Sharon: Work on flyers for printing that will go by the printer set up.

Rebecca: Start thinking about/working on the print flier for plastic collection.

Sam: Continue work on the Anteatery waste collection.

Nina/Claudia: Lotus wants to talk (sustainability coordinator from dining). Email/coordination.

Isabella/Nina: Go to Fabworks.

Archive Report

I’ve found some images in the archive, but nothing on the modules yet. I’ve got a couple more boxes to look through and a librarian directed me to go talk to Alan Hess and see if he had anything. I did find measurements of a kind, but it was “pre-mold” measurements They’re uploaded, and I’ll try to find more.

Thought the puzzle piece looking design of the top down view of the student housing was really cool, and found maps of the trees as well as a list of the original tress planted.

Blue Team Report

We were responsible for the archive this past week so some of our team went down to try and find if there was any extra information on the school’s modules. There’s a lot of overviews of the general layout of buildings and sketches but so far no specifics. The construction is documented, however so we may be able to find more there.

We didn’t find any exact measurements, but we found some great images and plan to go back to search more thoroughly when we are free next week. We linked some of our photos below, and will be adding more as we find more relevant information.

We currently are thinking about an idea involving the recycling aspects of the project for the final proposal but haven’t nailed down anything other than a location in or around the trash room and that we think it would be cool if it had lights.

Claudia O’Flaherty

Hi I’m Claudia, and I’m an art major and hopefully graduating this year if all goes well. Sorry if the photo is off, I’ve cut my hair a few times but I think it’s manageable. Also I have these super big round glasses sometimes.

In ten years I’d like to live in a lighthouse (it doesn’t have to be real or working) with my three best friends making games as a company. I want to make games and help people make games and that’s where I am happiest. I love working in fine arts but I’ve definitely found the only thing for me over in game dev working with programmers and game designers. I’m passionate about UI/UX work and my dream project is to recreate the way we handle alternative UI (eg: how we design for sound based or touch based UI that people with disabilities frequently have to rely on, vs how we design for visual UI). Games are awesome because it’s one of the few areas in the world where you can build in accessibility from the ground up. From the way the players pick up the controller, whether or not you have a controller, the systems and mod capabilities of games make it one of the only places where you can strive for innovation in accessible design without having to work around “pre-established” trends because of how young the genre of games is. It’s also super applicable to real world design and allows for prototyping of ideas that we can’t reasonably test.

I’ve tried everything, but I’m most comfortable in Maya and Mudbox 2017 as well as Maya LT. I’ve used Zbrush, Sculptris, Substance Painter, and Blender. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in any of these but I’ve been through several courses with them as well as made some small low poly game assets. For sure having gone through the Rhino tutorials the way I learned to model and the way Rhino works are very very different but it’s been incredibly helpful to learn the terminology twice over using different workflows. I normally work in 2d so if anyone ever wanted to know all of Krita or Photoshop’s hidden features I for sure have you covered in that.

For the most part I see it giving me a new understanding of 3d modelling in general. The terminology is fairly consistent and I’ve learned how certain tools in Maya were meant to work based on the way Rhino handles certain things. I’ve already tried making some of the models in Rhino and then in Maya just to feel out the difference. I see the 3d printing we’re about to do as being fairly cross applicable as well so I’m excited for that.
