Instructure updates Canvas every three (3) weeks. Comprehensive update notes are provided, but these posts will detail only the features relevant to our campus.

The 4/4 update includes enhancements to Outcomes, Course Settings, Gradebook, and more.

New Features & Updates

  • (Course Settings) Student Viewing Restrictions: Instructors can now choose to restrict students from viewing the course before the quarter begins or after the quarter ends.
  • (Learning Mastery Gradebook) New Calculation Methods: Instructors can now choose between four different calculation methods for the outcomes-based learning mastery gradebook: Decaying Average, n Number of Times, Most Recent Score, and Highest Score
  • (Gradebook) Editing Before Publish: Instructors can now edit the gradebook while the course is still unpublished (reverts a change implemented in the previous 3/14 release)
  • (Multiple areas) Updated Rich-Content Editor: The UI for the rich content editor has been updated with a new design and new features, including better support for tables, directional text, and HTML viewing.

Bugfixes & UI Tweaks

  • Various bugfixes, including:
  • Accessibility enhancements to Announcements, Course Settings, Course Setup Checklist, Conversations, Discussions, Files, Modules, Outcomes, Rich Content Editor, and Rubrics.
  • Calendar: Users can now create undated entries; these are placed in an “Undated” list in the sidebar
  • Calendar: Assignments with very long descriptions are now scrollable
  • Collaborations: Instructors can now create group collaborations without being a member of the group
  • And many more.
