SOCIAL SCIENCE H1F
- Who should enroll: CHP sophomores and juniors have been pre-authorized for Honors Social Science Core.
- What is Social Science H1F all about? Click here to get a brief description from former PAA and CHP alumnus, Malcolm Su (’17).
- If Social Science H1F is full before you enroll and you need to take the course winter 2018, then add yourself to the waitlist. Showing demonstrated need (via students putting themselves on the waitlist) will allow us to secure a larger room for the course. Alternatives to Social Science H1F include taking Physics H90 or one of the designated honors seminars. Please note that HUMAN H82 and LPS H125 are the only honors seminars for winter 2018 that can replace a quarter of Honors Social Science Core.
PHYSICS H90
- Who should enroll: This class has been specially designed for CHP non-science majors. CHP sophomores and juniors have been pre-authorized for Honors Science Core.
- Enrollment in lecture and discussion is required, though discussion attendance is optional. If you have a verifiable conflict with the discussion for this course, email honors@uci.edu to be authorized to enroll despite the course conflict.
- This quarter’s course is entitled, “Making Sense of our Senses: The Physics of Sound and Light,” and will be taught by Professor Jonathan Feng. This class will cover topics including the science of waves, sound, music, light, and color, and will include applications to everyday life, cool science demos, and brief bios of people whose discoveries help define the modern world.
HONORS SEMINARS
The CHP offers specially designed honors seminars that can be used to substitute for one quarter of a CHP core course as designated by the CHP. Please visit the Honors Seminars webpage for course descriptions and for more information about how these seminars may help you fulfill your CHP core course requirements. You may use ONE total seminar to substitute for ONE QUARTER of a CHP core course as designated by the CHP. Only ONE total substitution is permitted per student throughout their entire time at UCI, although you may take as many seminars as you wish for GE or elective credit. Please note that not all seminars provide GE credit. CHP sophomores, juniors, seniors and transfer students have been pre-authorized to enroll in these courses. Seminars offered for winter 2018 include:
- HUMAN H82 – “Sanctuary: Medieval and Beyond” with Professor Elizabeth Allen
Credit: GE Categories III or IV, may substitute for one quarter of Social Science Core. - LPS H125 – “What is Time?” with Professor Jim Weatherall
Credit: GE Category III, may substitute for one quarter of Social Science Core. - LPS H141 – “Philosophy of Quantum Mechanics” with Professor Jeffrey Barrett
Credit: No GE credit, may substitute for one quarter of Science Core.
SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES: EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE H30B
- Who should enroll: CHP sophomores who are on the Sustainable Societies Track and are currently enrolled in CHEM H30A.
- All students currently enrolled in CHEM H30 have been pre-authorized to enroll in EARTHSS H30B for winter 2018.
- CHP students on the Sustainable Societies Track are required to take all 6 classes of this track in order to complete this part of their CHP curriculum requirements.
