Upcoming Scholarship Deadlines

Donald A. Strauss Foundation: 1/22/18 at NOON

Sophomore and junior undergraduates may apply to the Strauss foundation and receive $15,000 to fund their service project. Must demonstrate an interest in public service, outstanding leadership potential, and wish to make a difference in their local, regional, or national communities. Open to DACA recipients and international students.

Apply to be a UCI Tour Guide

Applications for Campus Reps (UCI’s tour guides) are due on Friday, January 19 at 5:00 p.m. The role of the Campus Representative, or “Campus Rep,” is multifaceted, with many opportunities for students to serve their campus while developing personal skills and augmenting their academic growth. Students selected for the program are those who enjoy their college experience and wish to share it with future anteaters and families. Learn more and access the application here.

Campus Flu Advisory & Flu Shot Clinic

Call 949-824-5304 or walk in to the UCI Student Health Center for one of the following flu vaccination clinics:

January 17 – 18, 2018 (Wednesday & Thursday) Walk-in Flu Clinic 10:00 – 2:00 PM
January 23 – 25, 2018 (Tues., Wed. & Thurs.) Walk-in Flu Clinic 10:00 – 2:00 PM

According to a recent campus advisory, in addition to getting vaccinated, the following habits will help reduce the spread of flu and other illness:

Stay home when you are sick to prevent spreading the flu.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
Wash your hands, use hand sanitizers, and disinfect work surfaces with sanitizing wipes.

Refugee Awareness Week: Critically Engaging Refugee Narratives

In today’s polarized society, the word “refugee” has become increasingly politicized. Through Refugee Awareness Week at UCI, we hope to address misconceptions about refugees by understanding the processes of war, persecution, and other mechanisms of displacement that have forced an unprecedented 65.6 million people from their homes. We also hope to humanize the word “refugee” by sharing and understanding refugee stories, and by celebrating and enhancing their contributions to their host communities.

Join Peaceful Passions, the Dalai Lama Fellows, the UCI Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation, Fresh START, Liberty in North Korea, and the International Studies Public Forum as we hold Refugee Awareness Week at UC Irvine from January 16 – 19. All activities are open to the public and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. We thank the UCI School of Social Ecology for sponsoring the week of events.

Become a Battle of the Brains Volunteer!

It’s winter quarter, and we are already gearing up for Battle of the Brains (BOTB)! In case you don’t know, Battle of the Brains is one of CHP’s biggest events of the year, where we host a students vs. professors trivia contest along with skits, prizes and much more! We will need all of the help we can get, so if you want to contribute to this ultimate trivia competition, then sign up on the Google Form. A separate form will be sent out soon regarding meeting time/place.
