Freshman Summer Start Program discussion leaders are student leaders who run a discussion section twice a week with 15-20 first year students during Summer Session II. They facilitate the learning process for students, help students develop meaningful connections with their peers, and serve as a role model/mentor to all students enrolled in University Studies 83/84. Together with the instructor, your primary responsibility would be to lead productive discussion sections that serve to complement the learning that takes place both in the University Studies 83/84 course and through participation in the many FSSP-sponsored co-curricular activities. Summer Leadership Opportunity
Each summer about 200 incoming students come early to UCI to participate in the Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). As participants in FSSP, they enroll in University Studies 83/84-Pathways/Bridgeways to University Success. The course is designed to help first-year students make a successful transition to the University of California, Irvine and develop strategies that will enhance their University experience. Through lectures, discussion, and course assignments and activities, students will learn about campus resources and programs that support students transition and enhance their academic development, and will develop a personal action plan to guide their career at UCI.
