On Monday, April 16th from 6-8 pm in Pacific Ballroom D, Leap of Faith will be hosting the UCI Interfaith Hunger Banquet. At the Hunger Banquet, attendees will randomly draw tickets that assign them to different income levels, based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty worldwide. Depending on where they sit, some will receive a filling dinner, while others will eat a simple meal or share sparse portions of rice and water. The event will feature a presentation by UCI Professor Richard Matthew on his experiences working with the United Nations World Food Programme as well as a panel discussion with interfaith leaders who serve our local community. The goal of our event is to raise awareness and share persepctives on the root causes of hunger and to hopefully motivate UCI students to do something to help. Also, we will be collecting donations of supplies for our Day of Service during the event and throughout the month, so please feel free to contribute canned foods, hygeine supplies (hotel soaps, tooth brushes, toothpaste), or toys and school supplies for homeless families to our collection at the Hunger Banquet. The event is free to UCI students, faculty, and staff with RSVP here.
Nourish International
25,000 people die each day from hunger. You can change this.
Apply to start a chapter of Nourish International on your campus today!
Nourish is a student movement to address global poverty through social entrepreneurship. We are located on 22 U.S. college campuses and are now accepting applications to expand.
Nourish Chapters raise money on campus during the school year to fund international development projects. This past summer, students traveled to Turkey to develop a marketing strategy with Nilüfer Women’s Cooperative. The students’ efforts allowed the cooperative to expand, increasing the number of children receiving early education and the number of women employed.
By running a business venture to fund a project, you could have a similar impact. Here’s how to get started:
- Apply to start a Nourish Chapter: Until April 17th, Nourish will accept applications for its Chapter Founders Program. Chapter Founders will receive professional training, support and $500 start-up capital. Start your application now by clicking here!
- Tell a friend: Know someone who would make a great Chapter Founder? Nominate a friend now by clicking here!
