Learn more about what Research Fellows have been engaging in!

Are you interested in a career in analytics and data science, while making a social impact?

CP-LEADS (Career Pathways for Research in Learning and Education, Analytics and Data Science) Fellows Program is a data science fellowship and research training program that is open to undergraduate students with any major at the University of California, Irvine.

CP-LEADS Fellows learn how to conduct research that can improve the field of Education. The goal is to prepare fellows to be the new generation of researchers in the field of Learning Analytics and Educational Data Science.

People have been researching learning and teaching, tracking student progress, analyzing school or university data, designing assessments and using evidence to improve teaching and learning for a long time. Learning Analytics builds on these well established disciplines, but seeks to exploit the new opportunities once we capture new forms of digital data from students’ learning activity, and use computational analysis techniques from data science and AI.

Society of Learning Analytics Research

  • Using data science & analytics tools such as R
  • How to conduct research with education partners
  • Communicating research findings to make an impact in the community
  • Learn and connect with professionals and researchers in the field including their work, lives, and pathways
  • How to apply for and succeed in graduate school

Who Can Apply:

Interested students entering their 3rd year, incoming transfer students, and 4th-year students/2nd-year transfer students staying an additional year (5th year) are encouraged to apply and if accepted will begin the 1-year fellowship in the Winter quarter through the Fall quarter of their final year.

Program:

We have a highly interactive program! Fellows attend bi-weekly workshops and seminars that are focused on (1) individual mentorship and community building, (2) developing technical skills in analytics and data science, (3) learning how to be a researcher, and (4) how to successfully apply to Ph.D. programs.

Fellows match with UCI School of Education faculty and community partners, and complete a research project over the summer to apply their skills and contribute to a community need.

Fellows will be expected to apply to graduate school programs during the graduate school application cycle of their graduation year (senior year) with the support of the CP-LEADS Team.

All fellows receive a quarterly stipend as well summer housing and meal plan for the summer apprenticeship & activities, and funds to pay for GRE Exam preparation, GRE Exam, graduate application fees, and graduate school or conference visits (such as travel costs).

The fellowship is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences.
