Legal Factors

  • Street TimeSome youths spend time in facilities that prevent access to the outside community. The Street Time variable is intended to provide a simple proportion of the number of months spent in facilities (e.g., secure institutions, locked facilities, jails, detention centers, or residential treatment centers) to the total number of months in the recall period.

  • Legal Sanctions & Treatment Services: This measure asks the youth to describe the outcomes/dispositions received for the committing offense.  The youth is also asked about contact with his probation officer, treatment services received through probation, and other treatment services received by the youth.  This measure also asks about the index offense, including perceived guilt/responsibility for the crime.
