I’m an associate professor of modern Chinese history at UC Irvine, where I research and teach on the social and cultural history of twentieth-century China and the history of medicine. My interests generally involve illness, deviance, alternative medicine, and popular beliefs and superstitions.
I direct the Long US-China Institute and the graduate emphasis in medical humanities. I also serve as an advisor for the Luce-American Council of Learned Societies Program in China Studies and I’m a Public Intellectuals Program fellow with the National Committee on US-China Relations.
In my spare time, I’m a running enthusiast, marathoner, and Boston qualifier.
