Welcome to EmpowHER @ UCI!

The Project “EmpowHER: Empowering Women through High School Engagement and STEM Research” at UC Irvine School of Physical Sciences aims to provide a pathway for broadening access to and engagement of an underserved population of high school students who identify as women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

We will be running the following educational programs for women at Godinez High School for the 22-23 academic year:

  • An in-person annual conference (Oct. 8) featuring sessions designed to enhance student success in STEM, create a sense of belonging and community in STEM and expose students to potential STEM career paths
  • A series of hands-on activities reinforcing STEM concepts taught in the high school classroom with applicability to real-world problems and UCI research
  • A virtual mentoring program led by undergraduate and graduate students

Anticipated outcomes include:

  • Increase in students’ interest in STEM by expanding their competency in: skill sets and concepts pertaining to STEM fields and careers
  • Increase in students’ sense of belonging in STEM

*Please note that in order to participate in Oct. 8, you will need to have your parent/guardian sign the virtual waiver form preferably by Saturday, Oct. 1 (one week before the event).
