Visa Compliance

Full Time Student Status Compliance

In compliance with both the UC and U.S. immigration requirements, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be enrolled in minimum of 12 units per quarter.
  • At least 8 out of 12 units need to be in-person units. No more than 4 units or one course per quarter may be taken in the online format.

Students must maintain a 3.0 (B average) in all ESL, Extension, and UCI undergraduate coursework and must not receive any grade lower than a C-. Students may be dismissed if they fail to maintain the 3+2 academic standards.

  • Students will be placed on academic probation in the following quarter if they receive an unsatisfactory grade (C- or below, NP, or I) from any class, including ESL, Extension, and UCI undergraduate.
  • Students may be subject to academic dismissal if they receive an unsatisfactory grade (C- or blow, NP, or I) from any class two quarters in a row. The courses do not have to be the same ones.
  • Students will be placed on attendance probation in the following quarter if they miss more than 25 hours from all classes in the current quarter. Moreover, if students are placed on attendance probation, they will only be allowed absences up to 20 hours from all classes in the following quarter.
  • Students may be subject to attendance dismissal if they are absent for more than 20% of all class hours, including ESL, Extension, and UCI undergraduate, or if they miss a total of over 40 class hours (whichever comes first) in a given quarter.
