There are many great places in the Southern California to explore, and if you are a fan of museums, you will not want to miss many of the great places throughout the area. Some of those are even free or have free admission during certain period of time. So take some time to look at this blog and maybe it will give you an inspiration on your future exploration in the area.
Orange County itself has several interesting museums, including those for arts, science, history, kids, and even for surfing and cars. One of them that I had been to is the Orange County Museum of Art. It may not have a huge collection of artworks, but it certainly has some interesting exhibitions. I still have not been to many of them yet, and I hope to explore more of them in the future. Here is a link for some of the interesting museums in Orange County that you can plan for you next visit.
There are also many great museums in the Los Angeles, which is north of us. Two of the famous ones are the Getty Villa and the Getty Museum. The former one has artwork from the ancient Greece and Roman period, while the latter one features Western Artworks. Furthermore, both of them are free, except you have to pay for the park. Nevertheless, the collections are still worth the parking fee.
Another great place is the Exposition Park in downtown LA, in which the Natural History Museum of LA County, California African American Museum and the California Science Center are located. If you are a fan of spaceplane, you will not want to miss the Space Shuttle Endeavor exhibition in California Science Center. There are many more museums in LA County, including the LACMA, the Broad, and more. Here is a link that has a collection of museums in the area, and hopefully you will find something that interests you!
As for our southern neighbor, San Diego, you can find many interesting museums in Balboa Park, a large urban park near downtown (San Diego Zoo is there also!). These places have different themes, ranging from science, history, nature, arts, to sports and model railroad. It is an interesting experience to be able to explore diverse themes all at the same time, not to mention other exhibitions such as gardens and an amphitheater that will have concerts once in a while. On the other hand, if you have an interest in ships, the Maritime Museum of San Diego, and the USS Midway Museum will be good destinations for your next visit. If you are interested in finding more about the museums in San Diego, here is a good article to look at. Southern California is a region with many great places to go to. Hopefully this post will be helpful for you as you plan your next visit in the area.

August 8, 2017 at 9:43 amNice post Joe!
I definitely recommend the museums at Balboa Park! You get great discounts as students (provided you bring your student ID as suggested by Bri). I was there recently, and checked out “San Diego Museum of Man” and that has a lot of interesting exhibits that will get everyone’s attention. Right opposite that is another small museum “Cannibals: Myth or Reality” for those who are into such things 😛

Don’t forget to bring your student ID just in case students get a discount!

August 2, 2017 at 8:31 pmKeep your student ID handy as much as possible! There are all sorts of secret discounts that you can find if you show your student ID. For example, you can get a reduced rate ticket on Metrolink (public transit trains) with your ID. Some movie theaters have reduced rates with student IDs. Even some restaurants, for example, Veggie Grill in the University Town Center had a discount if you showed your student ID when I was last there.
