There are many differences between Eastern and Western culture. One of the biggest differences is the focus on teaching. In eastern teachings, students are the focus. Teachers deserve the utmost respect for their craft. Usually everyone remains quiet and takes notes throughout the lecture. However, this approach to learning changes in western teachings. Here, students are asked to be creative and intuitive. Questions are urged to be asked throughout the lecture, not just at the end. Asking the professor their opinions or if the answer is correct are encouraged. Asking why is normal in the classrooms and show that you are thinking and engaging with the topic covered. The professors here are seen as colleagues instead of gods and their knowledge can be questioned. So in class, feel free to ask as many questions as you want and speak up when you don’t understand a concept taught. If you aren’t comfortable in class, stop by office hours where you can speak one on one. And more importantly, don’t be shy to ask questions in class because chances are someone has the same question as you.

Also I would like to add that always attend the first day of classes (because professors usually talk about their course plan and policies) and of course arrive to class on time.
