Cal-IHEA aimed to facilitate productive discussion of policies to address homelessness and housing instability to improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs. This briefing united agency leaders, legislators, advocates and experts across sectors in the interest of developing equitable housing policy in California, and provoked thoughtful discussion about the ways in which the State can promote health, community safety, and accountability while expanding the health equity advances made in California.

The briefing convened an expert panel to present research evidence that focuses on housing as a health intervention for populations experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Panelists included Benjamin Henwood, PhD (University of Southern California), Norweeta Milburn, PhD (UCLA), Cynthia Nagendra, JD (UCSF), Andy Potter, PhD (CSU Chico),  and Eli Moore, MA (Othering & Belonging Institute, UC Berkeley) as a discussant. Opening remarks were given by Asm. David Chiu (Chair, Committee on Housing & Community Development).
