The Cal-IHEA team identified several online certificate programs, webinars, and resources for individuals and organizations interested in learning more about evidence-based public health, health policy, and health equity concepts and related content. We highly recommend the following resources:
1. Northwest Center for Public Health Practice’s – Evidence-Based Public Health Training Series
The target audience consists of public health professionals, scholars, and students. The approximate length is 10 hours to complete a 9-part series (online). You can obtain a certificate of completion if you successfully complete the trainings and activities. Additional acknowledgments: Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center and the Prevention and Research Center in St. Louis, Missouri
2. Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center’s – Advancing Health Equity Toolkit
The target audience consists of agencies, teams, and community-based organizations. There are currently 8 modules available with targeted core questions and activities to improve organizational practices, adoption, and implementation of the concepts.
3. Center for Disease Control and Prevention – Introduction to Policy Analysis in Public Health
The target audience consist of public health professionals, scholars, and students. The hour course introduces the learner to a policy process developed at CDC and provides specific instruction on the policy analysis component of the process. The content will result in the learner having a better understanding of what policy analysis is, its application in public health, and how it can contribute to the development of policy.
4. Center for Disease Control and Prevention – Introduction to Policy Evaluation in Public Health
The target audience consist of public health professionals, scholars, and students. The hour introduces the learner to the use of policy evaluation in public health and provides specific instruction on applying evaluation methods throughout a policy process. The course describes what “policy evaluation” is and will enable the learner to have a better understanding of how to apply the CDC Evaluation Framework to conduct an evaluation of policies that may impact public health.
5. Roots of Health Inequality – Why Root Causes?
The target audience consist of public health professionals, scholars, and students. This course course emphasizes the importance of a root-cause approach in addressing and eliminating health inequity by identifying the systems and factors that perpetuate it, while also exploring why traditional public health programs alone are insufficient for achieving true health equity.
