2023 Staff Engagement Survey
The UCI Staff Engagement Survey provides valuable insight into the level of engagement in our organization, down to the department level. The more participation we have, the more accurate our metrics, which can then be used to improve engagement. The last Staff Engagement Survey took place in 2021 and received high levels of participation. The main driver of such strong participation was due to staff engagement ambassadors, like you, who provided outstanding support in promoting and championing participation.
The 2023 UCI Staff Engagement Survey launches Monday, August 14! To keep you informed and motivated before, during, and after the survey, this toolkit includes presentations, promotional materials, Gallup Access resources, survey questions, and additional resources.

Ask Your Team to Take the Survey
- Encourage your team to take the survey, but DO NOT ask them if they have taken the survey, and do not force them to take the survey. We want to motivate and encourage participation, but we cannot require staff to take the survey.
- Share the UCI STAFF ENGAGEMENT SURVEY LEADER TOOLKIT with your manager.
- Ask your manager to send a personalized email to your team asking them to take the survey.
Promote a Survey Break
- A survey break is a set time during normal work hours when staff are allowed and encouraged to take time to complete the survey. Staff are not required to complete the survey, but we find that when leaders give permission and set aside approved, paid time, during the work day, staff feel more supported in their ability to participate. Work with your manager to discuss hosting a survey break by sending a calendar invitation and/or setting aside time (abut 10-20 minutes) for your team to take a survey break.
- An official survey break opportunity for campus and health sciences on Friday, August 18 will be advertised and approved by Chancellor Gillman via Zotmail. UCI Health CEO Chad Lefteris will also be promoting survey participation via a special message.
Offer an Incentive to Help Motivate Your Team to Take the Survey
- Plan and promote an offering to help motivate your team to take the survey.
- To request incentives for your team, email Lira at lirai1@uci.edu.
Stay Up to Date with Communications During the Survey
- Zotmails, survey invitation emails from Gallup, and ambassador updates will be sent during the survey
- Ambassador email updates
