The Humanities Core Course is composed of a series of lectures delivered by award-winning professors of literature, history, and philosophy. Intensive discussion sections with experienced instructors trained in writing and humanistic inquiry allow students to explore the issues and materials of the course while developing their writing skills.

The Humanities Core Course is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary course with a long tradition of success at UCI. The course efficiently fulfills 6 courses of the UCI general education requirement in the areas of Lower Division Writing (2 courses), Arts and Humanities (3 courses), and Multicultural Studies (1 course), while offering an excellent integrated writing program that trains students in multi-modal forms of communication, and the opportunity to work one-on-one with specialists in numerous disciplines. For over forty years, students have given Core exceptionally high evaluations, emphasizing its considerable influence on their subsequent coursework at the University, as well as on their professional and communal lives.

Humanities Core events extend these explorations beyond the classroom and the lecture hall, giving students the opportunity to share their achievements and welcoming everyone to join our intellectual community.
