TEM CCD camera down on 4/6/2012 and up on 5/4/2012

The camera worked well for two days. The same problem happened again on 4/6/2012. The camera was taken off from the TEM and packed on the same day. Gatan service director was informed. He responded quickly. The paperwork was doneĀ on 4/10/2012 and the camera shipped to the company on the same day.

  1. The Loaner camera is functional now. Please note that the central position of this camera is away from the center of the screen. It is about 1cm away from the screen center and in the 8 o’clock direction. This is a loaner camera. Please use it with care.

  2. The water adapters and gas tube may be received tomorrow (5/3/2012). I will test the loaner camera and calibrate it. I hope that the camera will up on the same day.

  3. The loaner camera was received and installed on 5/1/2012, but the water adapters and gas tube were not included. I have contacted Gatan and ask an engineer to ship the water and gas related parts to me asap. Our camera was shipped to Gatan factory for repair last week.

  4. The repaired camera was received and installed on 4/23/2012. During test, it was found that the original problem was fixed, but a new problem occured. Gatan engineer did an on-line test on 4/24/2012 and could not solve the problem by adjusting camera operation parameters. He asked us to ship it back to Gatan factory. The Gatan service director was contacted for long down time of the camera. He promised me to find a loaner camera and ship it to us this week.

  5. The camera arrived at Gatan on 4/12/2012. On 4/16/2012, Gatan service manager called me. He said that he knew what the problem was, but he had not found what really caused the problem. Becuse the same problem happened for three times, he would need more tests. He promised me to provide more information in the middle of this week. Today (Wed), I received a phone call from Gatan. The engineer told me that the camera worked normally, but he would keep the power on all the day and see if the electronics fails or not. Waiting for further updates…
