The UCI Nuclear Reactor Facility

A number of changes have taken place at the facility in 2020:

1. We have a new Facility Manager, John Keffer – see “people” for his details.
2. We have a new Associate Supervisor/Development Engineer, Tro Babikian – see “people” for his details.
3. As a consequence of COVID19 restrictions, we are operating for research and education users under a Phase 2 plan approved by the chemistry department and school. All necessary maintenance is being conducted.
4. We are able to offer our complete Activation Analysis Service (AAS).
5. We are NOT able to provide tours of any kind.
6. The reactor operator training program is continuing to prepare candidates for license exams, BUT the exams have had to be postponed. No new date has yet been established as restrictions to travel for the NRC examiner continue.
