Fall 2022 Updates for Student Success Technologies and Teaching & Learning Analytics

Fall 2022 was the first full academic quarter that the COMPASS Teaching & Learning Analytics project was coordinated by the new OIT Student Success Technologies team. Work this quarter included extensive collaboration between BI and web development staff to help deliver web applications in support of student success at UCI.

Our unique, blended web development + business intelligence team deployed a wide array of updates to our web applications and reports to the campus during Fall Quarter 2022.

As part of our ongoing migration to Tableau and the Student Data Warehouse, we launched some new dashboards using a combination of both our legacy dbCompass data and data sourced from the SDW.

This included the first campuswide Tableau dashboard for instructors and a new version of the original COMPASS Course Grade Distribution dashboard.

This new tool makes it easier than ever to visualize course grading through various demographics lenses in an intuitive and performant dashboard.

Continued development on the ScoreShare replacement project scheduled for release in February 2023.

As part of this transition, we will be coordinating a changeover from the existing legacy EEE+ ScoreShare tool to the new COMPASS ScoreShare application in late January and early February.

Deployed new reports and analytics tools for users of the UCI Appointments system to learn more about the students their offices serve, including demographics information as well as more routine reporting around numbers of students served.

Learn more about these at the UCI Appointments Support Site.

Deployed a new dashboard and new academic year attribute type to help users of the COMPASS Student Attribute Manager better track & learn more about the demographics, academic performance, and geographic distribution of their students.

This dashboard provides users with access to aggregated data on just their students, enabling them to filter by attribute, academic term, and academic year.

In partnership with the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning and the Office of Information Technology, the COMPASS Teaching & Learning Analytics team is working closely with the OIT Data & Information Management division to bring Unizin to UCI, which will usher us to the next generation of learning management system data to support several key COMPASS initiatives.

The SST team enhanced UCI Appointments with several useful features, including:

  • New email notifications to advisors when appointments are scheduled with them (plus the ability to opt-out)
  • Support-facing tool to enable our support team to look up users and groups more effectively in the system
  • New Contact Form to help guide students to the best place to get questions answered
