ScoreShare 2 Transition FAQ

Summary: In early March 2023, the new ScoreShare 2 tool will be launched and users of the EEE+ ScoreShare tool will be transitioned to the new tool.

Why is this happening?

More than five years after ScoreShare was launched to meet the needs of academic advisors, the campus’ current data and analytics needs called for a new, next-generation version.

What’s new in ScoreShare 2?

The rebuilt version of ScoreShare was created alongside a new platform, Insights, which will power future data-driven tools for advisors, instructors, and academic leaders. This platform enables us to leverage institutional data from the Student Data Warehouse and learning management system data from UCI Canvas together to provide valuable insights in a timely manner to key decision makers.

Here’s what you can expect when you access ScoreShare 2:

  • Faster performance: Built on years of experience working with Canvas Data, the new ScoreShare is much faster when looking up students
  • Optimized interface: You’ll be able to easily switch between quarters and classes when viewing a student, bulk add students to lists, and more quickly get access to Canvas scores than before
  • Additional context: When viewing a student, you’ll now see key information on academic performance and demographic characteristics

What about my existing lists and opted-in students in EEE+ ScoreShare?

In late February 2023, we’ll take a snapshot of the advising groups, advisors, lists, and students on those lists in EEE+ ScoreShare.

We’ll then load that list into ScoreShare 2 so your advisors, lists, and students are available when you first log in.

What won’t be available in ScoreShare 2?

  • Student opt-in: An Academic Senate decision several years ago to allow advisors to look up any student’s assignment scores was implemented in EEE+ ScoreShare several years ago, but the old opt-in feature remained. This will not be available in ScoreShare 2.
    • We will have a new bulk student add feature available which will let you take a list of student ID #s, UCInetIDs, or UCI email addresses and quickly add them to an existing list
  • Contextual score information: The display of mean, median, and standard deviation will not be available, but we plan to re-implement these data elements in the future.
  • Certain list management features: Several little-used features will not be available in ScoreShare 2; this includes private lists and the ability to clear out a list with one click (instead, it will be a few clicks).

What’s next for ScoreShare 2?

After the Student Success Technologies and Teaching & Learning Analytics teams deliver our next project to the campus (the COMPASS Navigator portal), we’ll start working through any user requests for ScoreShare 2 alongside several key projects, including:

  • Adding in the mean, median, and standard deviation when viewing assignment scores
  • A visualization of a student’s performance in the course using the scores data presented in ScoreShare 2
  • Migrating the underlying data source from Canvas Data to a new source, the Unizin Data Platform

I have questions, who can I talk to?
