About Us – Project ICHOR at UCI

ICHOR stands for Initiatives for Chronic Health Outreach & Research at UCI. We are a group of passionate, pre-health undergraduate students and young professionals at UC Irvine with a common goal of serving the underserved in our community.

Our Mission

Project ICHOR at UCI seeks to promote the health and wellbeing of the underserved communities of Orange County through preventative education to combat the most prevalent chronic conditions in those communities, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, and diabetes. Our goals include the effective prevention, recognition, and management of chronic conditions in underserved populations by alleviating accessibility issues and reducing health disparities through holistic educational workshops. These workshops aim to promote a healthier diet, increase physical activity, and reduce tobacco use. We strive to alleviate accessibility issues by giving methods to maintain a healthy lifestyle through a student-managed logistical system to bring healthy dietary options and exercise programs to the underserved community. In addition, we aim to educate our general members on how to address prevalent public health concerns in the underserved communities in Orange County. Project ICHOR will also gather voluntary data from the underserved populations we interact with to better understand the extent of the health disparities present in these communities. Data will be used for quality-improvement purposes for the organization to better serve the community.

Project ICHOR aims to supply a local, collective voice representing the desire of young students to promote and support individuals who face barriers in receiving healthcare. Through our strength, we advocate for both resources and health policy that benefits the disadvantaged and disenfranchised.
