Our residents spend approximately 70 percent of their time at UC Irvine Medical Center and 30 percent of their time at VA Long Beach Medical Center, not including pediatric months spent at CHOC Children’s.

Residents take one IR month per year during the first three years, with these years focused on learning diagnostic radiology and preparing for the core examination.

The last two years of the residency focus on interventional radiology including the clinical care of IR patients and the performance of image-guided procedures.

Residents participate in the entire gamut of modern interventional radiology care with an emphasis on pre- and post-procedure management and clinic patient evaluations. Participation in ongoing research projects, publications, and submission to regional and national meetings is highly encouraged and supported.

During the first six months of the PGY-2 year, residents rotate through general diagnostic divisions with no call of any kind. Starting from January of the PGY-2 year, residents begin taking home IR and VA call.

As per ACGME guidelines, in-house ER diagnostic call rotations begin in July of the PGY-3 year.

PGY-4 residents attend the AIRP course in Washington, D.C.
